2020 Legislative Update
2020 was another exciting year for the General Assembly. Now that all the legislation has taken effect, local governments are responsible for implementing the changes. The Berkley Group has developed and are sharing the materials below to serve as a quick reference for localities. Feel free to distribute these reference materials to colleagues in the planning and community development world, and let us know how we can help your community in implementing this new legislation!

Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI) Membership
The Berkley Group is an Envision Qualified Company and corporate member of the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI). ISI released the Envision® guidance and rating system for sustainable infrastructure in 2012 as a collection of best practices to help infrastructure professionals make better decisions during the lifecycle of infrastructure. It allows for and encourages professionals to take into account the triple bottom line, the concepts of impact to the environment, to the people, and to the economy. Envision is freely available as a guidance manual, online scoresheet, and pre-assessment checklist. The ISI also offers a professional credential (Envision Sustainability Professional or ENV SP) and a third-party project review and recognition program on a fee basis.
Staff member Denise Nelson, P.E., CFM, ENV SP, and LEED AP, is a leading expert on the Envision system. She was one of the first people to earn the ENV SP credential, become an ISI-approved Envision trainer (one of only two in Virginia), and become a third-party project reviewer.
As an Envision Qualified Company and ISI member, we can help local governments learn about and implement the Envision concepts to create more livable and resilient communities. We can provide guidance on decision making in infrastructure projects, incorporate the triple bottom line into project workflow and reporting, perform Envision assessments, provide in-person Envision credential training, and facilitate collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
