Dr. David Sovine

Dr. David T. Sovine is a proven instructional leader who has served as superintendent of two school districts in both Virginia and Maryland. Throughout his educational career, which spans over three decades, he has served as an educator, leader, partner, and innovator in public education. He has leveraged resources with intention and strategy to effectively meet the diverse and evolving needs of students across rural, suburban, and urban communities. David received his Doctor of Education degree from the University of Virginia and Master of Education degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from West Virginia University Institute of Technology.
David has been the recipient of numerous awards and distinctions throughout his career, including the National Sallie Mae First-Year Teacher Award (1991), Finalist for Virginia Principal of the Year (2003), R.E.B. Distinguished Educational Leadership Award (2009), and the Virginia Department of Education' s Region IV Superintendent of the Year (2018). He has recently served as the President of the Public School Superintendents' Association of Maryland (PSSAM) and has served as the Chair of the Washington DC Area Superintendents' Study Council (WASSC). David also served on the School Superintendents Association (AASA) Governing Board representing the states of Maryland and Virginia, for two separate terms, where he was instrumental in providing testimony to lawmakers on Capitol Hill to address student needs in public schools.
For five consecutive years, David served as the Virginia Association of School Superintendents (VASS) Legislative Committee Chair as well as an Executive Coach for the inaugural Virginia Superintendents Leadership Academy.
