Ruminations on VACo 2017 from The Homestead

We entered this year’s annual VACo conference with eager anticipation as a new partner. To increase our profile and highlight our partnership with VACo, we hosted a hospitality suite which had about 100 attendees. It was very successful and kept Drew and Darren running for several hours! We had representatives from more than a dozen counties attend along with other consultants and VACo staff. We also suggested that VACo produce a partners video to highlight the conference and the partnership program. That video is in production now and will feature The Berkley Group as the “opening act”.

The VACo conference is always full of informative sessions, most of which we miss (unfortunately) due to manning our exhibitor booth or wandering around speaking with folks. As a very spouse friendly event, there are over 900 attendees annually. It’s literally two and a half days of meeting people, catching up with friends and colleagues, and trying to schedule follow-up meetings!

Our biggest takeaway from the conference is that our Virginia counties are busy, and they value the opportunity to share information with one another and learn about the latest trends. The VACo conference is the most informative and well attended conference that we’ve attended in our 20+ year careers. If you are a County official, or a consultant serving the public sector, and you’ve never been, we’d highly recommend you attend next year. It always kicks off the second weekend in November at The Homestead in Bath County!
