Full Circle Moment

Recently, one of Berkley Group’s own had the unique opportunity to virtually return to her alma mater and present to a class of eager students about her journey and the comprehensive plan that she helped develop for the very town where they are studying.

Rebecca Cobb, a 2004 graduate from Longwood University, partnered with Doug Stanley, County Administrator for Prince Edward County and Adjunct Faculty, to present to his planning class.  The presentation focused on the comprehensive plan which

Berkley Group authored with the town, detailing the process involved in its development. She discussed the importance of community engagement, data-driven decision-making, and the strategies employed to address local challenges. The students were engaged, asked thoughtful questions that showcased their enthusiasm for planning and their desire to make a difference in communities.

Rebecca also took the opportunity to share her journey into the field of planning.  Her path is unique, starting with an environmental law class that led to a state position in environmental enforcement, and then to local government in zoning and planning. This narrative surprised the students but reminded them that all journeys are distinct and filled with opportunities for growth.

This full-circle moment with her alma mater reaffirmed her belief in the power of education and mentorship. She hopes to continue supporting the next generation of planners.
